Supporting PAWS of Coronado: A Visit That Meant Something
At The O’Brien’s, a big part of what we love about real estate has nothing to do with homes, it’s about community.
And this week, we had the chance to spend time with one of Coronado’s most impactful local organizations: PAWS of Coronado.
If you’re not familiar, PAWS (Pacific Animal Welfare Society) has been serving the Coronado community since 2003. What started as a vision from founder Louise Shirey has grown into a trusted organization that provides rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption services for animals right here in our city.
But what makes PAWS truly unique is that they aren’t just a rescue, they partner directly with the City of Coronado to provide comprehensive animal services. That means everything from lost pets to licensing to animal care flows through their team. It’s a level of responsibility and trust that speaks volumes about the organization they’ve built.
What We Saw Firsthand
Walking through PAWS, one thing becomes immediately clear: this is a place built on care.
Every animal we met is being treated with patience, compassion, and intention. Whether it’s medical treatment, behavioral support, or simply giving an animal the time it needs to heal, the goal isn’t just to place animals, it’s to find the right forever home.
We also had the opportunity to spend time with Greg Curtin, the current Board President of PAWS. It’s clear that under his leadership, and with the support of an incredible team and volunteer network, PAWS continues to carry forward Louise Shirey’s original vision in a meaningful way.
A Commitment That Stands Out
One of the most powerful aspects of PAWS is their commitment to care.
They work tirelessly to treat and rehabilitate animals whenever possible, and they are part of a broader San Diego effort to eliminate euthanasia of healthy or treatable animals. That kind of commitment requires resources, expertise, and an incredible amount of heart.
And it shows in everything they do.
Why We Chose to Give Back
After seeing the impact PAWS has on our community, and the level of care they provide, we felt inspired to support their mission.
During our visit, we were proud to present PAWS with a $1,000 donation to help continue the incredible work they’re doing here in Coronado.
It’s a small gesture in the grand scheme of what they do, but one we felt strongly about.
How You Can Get Involved
Organizations like PAWS don’t operate in a vacuum, they rely on the community they serve.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved, here are a few ways to support:
- Adopt – Give an animal a loving forever home
- Foster – Provide temporary care and make a lasting impact
- Volunteer – Support daily operations and animal care
- Donate – Help fund medical treatment, rehabilitation, and services
Every bit of support helps continue their life-changing work.
Final Thoughts
Coronado is special for a lot of reasons, but organizations like PAWS are a big part of what makes it feel like home.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to spend time with their team, learn more about what they do, and play a small role in supporting their mission.
If you haven’t visited PAWS before, we encourage you to stop by, get involved, and see the impact for yourself.
