We spent the afternoon poolside at the Hotel Del Coronado, where their live mermaid show completely captivated our daughter, Ollie. As the mermaids glided through the water with shimmering tails and big, enchanting smiles, Ollie’s eyes grew wide with wonder. She didn’t move a muscle, just watched, completely spellbound.

The look on her face? Pure magic.

It’s these little moments that make Coronado feel like more than just home, it’s a place where everyday life can turn into something truly special. The Del continues to be a place of wonder not just for guests, but for locals like us who get to experience it through our children’s eyes.

Aboard the stunning Blue Moon sailboat, we cruised across the calm waters of Glorietta Bay, soaking in the sights and the serenity. The gentle breeze, the sparkle of the sun on the water, and the unmistakable silhouette of the Hotel Del in the background made for an unforgettable afternoon.

There’s a certain magic that happens on the bay, where conversation flows as easily as the wind in the sails, and time seems to slow down just enough for you to really take it all in.

This past weekend, Mark joined a few friends from the Hotel Del Coronado for a round of golf at the Coronado Golf Course, one of the most scenic and beloved public courses in the country. With the San Diego skyline in the distance, sailboats gliding through Glorietta Bay, and ocean breezes in the air, it was the perfect setting for a relaxed (and slightly competitive) morning on the links.

As always, the course was in top shape, and the company made it even better. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just picking up a club for the first time, this course is a local gem that offers something for everyone and it’s hard to beat that view.

Mamma Mia! and Movie Magic by the Sea

There’s nothing quite like a movie night in Coronado, especially when it’s hosted under the stars, with the sound of the surf just steps away.

We had the absolute joy of kicking off our weekend with the Coronado Island Film Festival’s beachside screening of Mamma Mia! at the iconic Hotel Del. It was one of those perfect Southern California evenings where the breeze is warm, the sky is clear, and the energy is pure joy.

From the opening credits to the final scene, the sand was filled with singing voices, swaying hips, and more than a few spontaneous dance parties. Families brought blankets, couples cozied up in beach chairs, and the crowd belted out ABBA hits like they were part of the cast.

The Hotel Del continues to be a magical backdrop for community events like this where the beauty of our island meets the vibrancy of Coronado’s cultural life. A huge thank you to the Coronado Island Film Festival for bringing us all together once again for a night of nostalgia, music, and memory-making.

4th of July Magic

The 4th of July in Coronado is unlike anywhere else. We started our day early at the iconic parade, where Mark O’Brien had the honor of being one of this year’s announcers. He hada blast ushering in each parade participant and connecting with the community (and his sharing his 4th-inspired playlist, which got many compliments!).

From there, we made our way to the Coronado Yacht Club for BBQ and the always-thrilling Frog-X skydiving show, then wrapped up the night with fireworks over the bay and some late-night celebration at McP’s, a bar rich with Navy SEAL and military history.
