FOURTH OF JULY, FLIP-FLOPS & FIREWORKS
Coronado’s 4th of July events are a go for this year and boy does it feel good to be able to celebrate together again!
These events just don’t happen, so I want to thank “Coronado Fourth of July”, which is a corporation that organizes and funds the Coronado Independence Day festivities and is comprised of all volunteers. They are an impressive group that does a ton of work throughout the year to gather donations and organize these awesome events.
Falling on a weekend this year, there are two big days of fun activities!
– The good times begin at 7am Saturday, July 3rd with the “Crown City Classic” which is a 12K & 5K Run along the Coronado Bay!
Starting and finishing in Tidelands Park, the course showcases the scenic views of the Coronado Bridge and there will also be a Crown City Half-Mile for kids!
– Also on the 3rd, starting at 10am the Independence Day Parade returns with its march down Orange Ave from 1st Street to Churchill Place.
It’s highly recommended to get your spot along Orange Ave. very early in the morning. You can’t set up before 5am but “front-row” spots on the curb or grassy median will fill up very soon after.
– At 2pm on Sunday the 4th of July, look up for the Navy Leap Frogs who will be doing their yearly demonstration and will land on the Coronado Golf Course near Glorietta Bay.
– Then the capper! At 9pm fireworks will be lighting up the night sky all over the Bay. You have two opportunities to see the sparks fly…
- Coronado Fireworks Over Glorietta Bay.
- San Diego Fireworks Over San Diego Bay of the Ferry Landing side with a musical simulcast that will be broadcast live on KGB 101.5 FM radio.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Traffic all weekend will be a mess so if you’re coming from off-island it is recommended to take the ferry over from downtown San Diego to Coronado. To get around town, you can bring your bike or hop on the “Free Summer Shuttle” that goes down Orange Ave. right from the Ferry Landing.
