The sand dunes on Coronado’s Central Beach spell out the word C-O-R-O-N-A-D-O!!!
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1988, Armando Moreno (City of Coronado employee) decided to bury the kelp that he was tasked with removing from the shore in the sand a very clever idea was born.
After burying the kelp he added ice plant to the top to create a series of letters and after that two-year process was completed his masterpiece was created.
Many years later the secret held by Armando and many Navy pilots was out, Google Earth was born and grounded residents got to see his creation.
Little known fact, BEHR also has a paint color named Coronado Dunes. It’s product code is #240-3 and has a nice mellow-yellow color.
