HOWL YOU DOIN’?
Can you believe it’s October already! Time flies when the world reopens and you try to make up two years’ worth of activities in the span of a few months.
I had a memorable September as I traveled way “off-island” for a family reunion in Wisconsin. While there, I went to the world-famous music festival, Summerfest in Milwaukee and purchased the perfect vehicle for Coronado living, a late-model Jeep Wrangler. It was an absolute joy reuniting with family members after a couple of years in lockdown and Guns n’ Roses put on their standard epic 3-hour show at the fest. The two-and-a-half-day, 2,000-mile drive back home was unbelievably special as I witnessed the unique and ever-changing beauty of this great Country. Of course, the most inspiring sight was the sun setting on our gorgeous Coronado Bridge as I arrived home just in time for dinner.
For Halloween, the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission, the Recreation & Golf Service and the Coronado Public Library have joined forces to bring the community a special “Halloween Happening” on Friday, Oct. 29. This year, there will be fun for all ages at various locations around Coronado.
“Ghouls,” “Boos” and their families are welcome to head over to Spreckels Park at 3:30 p.m. to enjoy festive music, enchanting entertainment, thrilling trick-or-treating, “Spooktacular” games, prizes and activities. This free event ends at 5:30 p.m., just in time to head across the street. For more information, contact (619) 522-7342.
Families can then walk over to the Library for a showing of Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” on the lawn and to a spooky scavenger hunt. Both begin at 6 p.m. and end by 8 p.m. If you would like to find out more about these two events, call (619) 522-7390.
For the adults, John D. Spreckels Center will host a Halloween Bash for those 21 and up from 6-8 p.m. Dress your decade or in your spookiest outfit, enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, take part in the activities and rock to ‘60s, ‘70s and Halloween music. To purchase a ticket or find out more details, call (619) 522-7343 or email spreckelscenter@coronado.ca.us.
Finally, don’t forget to make sure your October is “Rocktober”. Even though summer is a memory, most of the usual suspects like McP’s, Emerald C Gallery, Costa Azul, Wine-A-Bit and the Hotel Del still offer live music throughout the week.
