A local legend, Bill Pavlacka, “The Sandcastle Man” produces sandcastle art in front of the Hotel del Coronado.
While doing a lot of work for the hotel’s events and guests, The Sandcastle Man is an independent contractor and can be contacted via his website https://www.thesandcastleman.com/.
He builds castles for a variety of purposes such as weddings, engagements, parties, corporate events, and commercials.

Here in Coronado we have been blessed to have 11 President’s visit our our island.
The first being President Benjamin Harrison, pictured here on April 23, 1891 after having breakfast at The Del. This was the first time an in-office United States President had visited San Diego.
Later, Harrison told future President William Taft (another Coronado visitor), “One who has ever breathed this atmosphere would want to live here always.”.
Wish I would have been around during that conversation, I would have given them my card.

The Hotel Del isn’t the only hotel on the island with grandeur architecture and a rich history.
Right across the street is the Glorietta Bay Inn. This boutique hotel is a historic landmark in Coronado, built in 1908 as the home of John D. Spreckels. Today the hotel has 11 historic mansion rooms and 89 contemporary rooms and suites.
It even looks beautiful in the rain!

Hotel Del Coronado celebrates the holiday season by transforming their garden patio into a winter wonderland with a huge Christmas tree, thousands of white sparkling lights, ornament-trimmed evergreens and garlands galore.
They also have ice-skating next to the beach!
It definitely puts you in the holiday spirit and the boozy hot beverages help take the edge off any pressures the holiday season brings.
