On July 8, 2009, Rotary Club members and the community christened a new plaza fountain “Jim Vernetti Fountain” to honor Dr. Jim’s extraordinary service to humanity and the Coronado community.
During my morning routine, I noticed something different about this Coronado landmark in Rotary Park. It looks like some pranksters had some fun overnight.

Cool Cool Water!
The City has recently installed two bottle filling stations in Coronado to provide as a service to the public!
Currently, one station is up and running at Coronado Rotary Plaza and there’s another one at the Glorietta Bay Tennis Center with more planned for City Hall, the Community Center and the Spreckels Center.
The City is making clean, safe water available to the public to use in their own reusable bottles so grab one and stay hydrated while taking the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission art walking tour.

Introducing the newest member of the Coronado is Calling family, Buffy O’Brien!
Buffy is looking forward to discovering all the things that make this island community unique and I’m extremely excited to have her as a sidekick while I venture out and about town.
Adding Buffy to our young family and continuing to establish roots in Coronado is a dream come true.

The Coronado Public Library reopens today!
Hours will be limited initially from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday, except Wednesdays when closing time will be extended to 9 pm.
The first hour in the morning will be allocated exclusively to at-risk residents including seniors 60-plus and those with underlying health conditions and then open to all ages at 11am. The hope is to return to a normal 7-day schedule after a transition period of a few weeks.
The Library currently has an exhibition that features a sampling of folk arts and crafts from around the world. Working in collaboration with the Mingei International Museum at Balboa Park, the Library exhibition features items from the museum’s permanent collection.

Walking by Lamb’s Players Theatre this morning made me think of all the live performance art that we’re missing because of the pandemic and how important it is to support these venues and artists while they wait for the green light to reopen.
Lamb’s Players is working to develop new musicals and plays to entertain us once it is safe and are not canceling any performances from 2020 but simply postponing them. I’m especially looking forward to “Million Dollar Quartet”, which is the story of one night in Dec 1956 when Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis had a recording session at Sun Records.

The Coronado Tennis Center is located right next to the beautiful Glorietta Bay and features eight hard courts including three courts that have lighting for night matches!
It also has a clubhouse complete with a kitchen, television, and free Wi-Fi and an outside patio that has tables and chairs to relax and watch matches.
Westwood Sports Coronado (A Full-Service Tennis Shop) is also on location and offers same-day stringing as well as a variety of rackets, shoes, and tennis apparel.
