The new Coronado Public Art Walking Tour app (created and gifted to Coronado by resident Joshua Tyler) is amazing! The app highlights more than 75 pieces of public art, shares their details, and navigates walkers or bikers on a public art tour throughout the city to check each installation out.
World-famous artists represented in the collection include Donal Hord, muralist Alfredo Martinez Ramos, James Hubbell, and John Seward Johnson II, as well as local artists like Kristen Green who has six installations on the Island.
To commemorate the launch, the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission has created a giveaway with restaurants and merchants donating generous gift certificates and prizes and the Coronado Parks and Recreation Department has also donated a round of golf for four with a cart, an eight-punch card for the Boathouse for kayaking, paddle boarding and rowing in Glorietta Bay, a one-month pass to the Community Center for the gym and pool, and four 2-hour court reservations at the Tennis Center!
The contest runs through the entire month of July. To be eligible for the giveaway, download the walking tour app onto your smartphone by searching for Coronado Public Art on your app store. The app will then guide you to various works of art and tell you about each piece of art and the artist who created it. Take at least three selfies at different pieces of art that you like and post them on the special Coronado Art Walking Tour Giveaway Facebook page and you will be included in a random drawing with winners announced in early August.
